Words of the Day

  • lanate
    • DEFINITION: (adjective) Having or consisting of woolly hairs. SYNONYMS: woolly. USAGE: The woolly aphid has a lanate coat resembling cotton.
  • ethereal
    • DEFINITION: (adjective) Characterized by unusual lightness and delicacy. SYNONYMS: gossamer. USAGE: The birdwatchers longed to see the smallest and most ethereal of birds but found only a family of common pigeons.
  • abaxial
    • DEFINITION: (adjective) Located away from or on the opposite side of the axis, as of an organ or organism SYNONYMS: dorsal. USAGE: The abaxial surface of the leaf was covered in stomata, tiny pores that allow the exchange of carbon dioxide and oxygen between the internal tissues of the plant and the outside atmosphere.

Stroop Effect

The Stroop Effect is seen when the brain receives two interfering inputs. In this example, you are supposed to say the color the words are written in, not the actual word. So for example. for:

Brown in blue

You are supposed to say 'blue', not brown. The interfering inputs in this case are the color of the words (blue) and the word itself, brown, which is another color.

Now try to say the color the following words are written in as fast as possible:
